Start with How the Draft Is Showing Up
An exterior door can feel drafty for more than one reason. Sometimes the fix is as simple as worn weatherstripping or a threshold adjustment. Other times the issue comes from a door slab, frame, or fit problem that keeps coming back no matter how often small parts are replaced.
The pattern of the draft usually tells you a lot.
When a Quick Fix Often Works
Skilled trades for every repair
Quality craftsmanship and attention to detail make the difference in every remodeling project. We bring years of experience to Central Kentucky homes and businesses.
Targeted door repairs can make sense when:
- Weatherstripping is visibly worn
- The threshold needs adjustment
- Light air leaks are limited to one area
- The door itself is still in good condition
These are the situations where focused maintenance may restore comfort without opening a larger project.
When the Door or Opening Is the Real Problem
Replacement becomes more likely when:
- The slab is warped or damaged
- The frame is out of square
- The door has long-term latch or swing problems
- The same draft issues keep returning after small repairs
In those cases, replacement can solve a bigger fit problem that weatherstripping alone cannot.
Comfort and Exterior Performance Go Together
A better-sealed entry door supports comfort, durability, and how finished the exterior feels overall. That makes door condition part of a larger exterior-maintenance conversation, not only a hardware issue.
Match the Fix to the Door's Condition
If the draft issue is mostly wear at the seals, a focused repair may be enough. If the opening or slab itself is the problem, replacement is often the cleaner long-term answer.
