The Flooring Debate
When Kentucky homeowners ask us about flooring, the question often comes down to LVP (luxury vinyl plank) vs. traditional hardwood. Both have their place.
LVP Flooring Advantages
Durability
- Waterproof - ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements
- Scratch-resistant - great for pets and kids
- Doesn't expand/contract with humidity changes
Cost
- Material: $2-7 per sq ft
- Installation: $2-4 per sq ft
- Total: $4-11 per sq ft installed
Expert floor finishing
Quality craftsmanship and attention to detail make the difference in every remodeling project. We bring years of experience to Central Kentucky homes and businesses.
Kentucky Climate Considerations
Central Kentucky's humid summers and dry winters can cause hardwood to gap or cup. LVP remains stable year-round.
Maintenance (Great for Busy Households)
- Sweep or damp mop; no waxing or refinishing
- Resists stains and spills—ideal for kitchens and high-traffic areas
- No seasonal gaps or squeaks to worry about
Hardwood Advantages
Value
- Higher perceived value at resale
- Can be refinished multiple times
- 50+ year lifespan with care
Aesthetics
- Natural variation and warmth
- Authentic look and feel
- Matches historic Kentucky homes
Cost
- Material: $5-15 per sq ft
- Installation: $4-8 per sq ft
- Total: $9-23 per sq ft installed
Maintenance
- Periodic sweeping and occasional damp mop
- Refinishing every 10–15 years to restore appearance
- Avoid standing water; use area rugs in high-wear spots
Our Recommendation by Room
| Room | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Living/Dining | Hardwood or premium LVP |
| Kitchen | LVP (water resistance) |
| Bathroom | LVP (waterproof required) |
| Basement | LVP only |
| Bedrooms | Either works well |
